How do candle lanterns compare with liquid fuel or propane lanterns?

A candle lantern will give enough light so that you probably won't trip over the dog, but you can't read a book without eye strain. Liquid fuel lamps that have a wick provide enough light to read by, but are serious fire hazards and once lit, can not be moved without risk. Liquid fuel lanterns that burn a mantle (like coleman or aladdin), and propane lights made by these two, give enough light to turn night into day and are much safer to use and to move when lit.
