My 1999 Mercury Villager ran out of gas while driving home and now will not start.?

I was driving home from work and it ran out of gas. It will not start now though the engine does crank over. I went to another website and it said to press the fuel cut-off reset switch on the drivers kick panel. I did that and it will still not start. What do I have to do to get this fixed so it will start again and run? It does start if i put a splash of gas down the air intake. This is a fuel injection engine btw.
